Opera Gala Evening at AK - 07/04/2005. Photos © Salina Christmas & Kate

Photographing the various facial expressions on Katherine Bird's face on ISO 640 is harder than photographing a boat race. Kath, the mezzo soprano, is a sculler at Auriol Kensington. Hearts just melt when the singers perform Delibes's Flower Duet. The photos captured during this performance are priceless. The Flower Duet is sung by Lakme, an Indian maiden from the Brahmin caste, and her friend Mallika while they are picking blue lotuses from a pond for the Hindu god Ganesh. Lakme falls in love with a dashing English officer, Gerald. When she realizes they can't be together, she withdraws by eating the poisonous datura flower so she'll be out of Gerald's way. Oh dear. Lenses: 18-70mm and 70mm-300 mm. ISO 500-640. White balance: flourescent light. Time: 7.30 pm - 9.00 pm. Indoor. Home  Coxing
